A match made in the Stars of film

From what I have learned over my years, science fiction fans are alligned with Star Wars or Star Trek.
Star Wars with the hooded Jawas, the asthmatic but dangerously scary Darth Vader, and the ancient power of the Force that flows through life and can be manipulated by Jedi - and the evil Sith.
Star Trek has the famous Captain Kirk that springboarded William Shatner to fame, an array of interesting and variously powerful villains ranging in age and alien race, and the power of warp speed exploited by the USS Enterprise to discover new worlds.
Admittedly, I've never been much of a Trekkie - I've been a Star Wars fan since I was a child.
The magical universe that pits good against evil and fought with laser swords (lightsabres of course) capable of cutting through anything - except other laser swords (lightsabres). A universe that pits the Galactic Empire ruled by a ruthless Emperor against the Rebel movement (or scum, depending who you ask). And the very same universe that allows prehistoric teddy bears to overcome an enemy armed with laser guns/pistols, the benefits of technology and two giant balls of weaponised fury capable of wiping out an entire planet.
Up until this moment, I have avoided immersing myself in the Star Trek universe.
Star Trek: Stardate Collection. My journey into the Star Trek universe will be complete when I get through the 10 films. You can get the Stardate Collection at Big W or JB HiFi for about $65.

I have dipped my toes in the J.J Abrams-directed reboot in 2009 more than once, beginning a small symphony of interest that would remain unexplored for some time yet. But after watching his 2013 follow-up "Into Darkness", well I could not ignore the symphony that become a fully-fledged orchestral piece about to launch into its crescendo.
The first thing I did after watching the newest addition to the Star Trek family was go out and purchase the Stardate Collection - all 10 Star Trek films in one lovely box set.
Curiosity seems to get the better of me, and this time is no different. I'll write a little bit more about my love of Star Wars in future, but for now I'm diving head-first into the Star Trek universe.
